GOC research by BMG was published in 2016 highlighting the significant gaps in lens wearer compliance indicating less than half of our patients could recall being given advice at their last aftercare appointment.
In 2017 to address the risks relating to non-compliance the GOC established a direct to wearer campaign - Love Your Lenses.
In 2019, reflecting the poor levels of recollection of aftercare advice this campaign was developed in partnership with Claremont Communications to include a stream of work to engage ECPs in redesign risk.
An expert working group, including members of the GOC Love your Lenses steering group, along with Dr Katerina Kassalou (behavioural psychologist from Cambridge University) developed a proposal and a small qualitative pilot focussing on
1. A small number of key modifiable behaviours from the BCLA Do’s and Don’ts of Contact Lens care as primary concern
2. Using insights from other healthcare campaigns suggested three simple methods to drive up wearer engagement.
This peer group discussion session explores three simple methods to improve wearer recall and ultimately compliance with aftercare advice and allows delegates to critique the concepts and create an individual action plan .
